Strength: 100Ogres are the most useless 5th unit available. Between cost and moves/round, there is no reason to employ them.
Strength: 100Orks are not bad if you must have a 5th unit. They are cheap and at 3 moves/round can be of some use.
Strength: 110Olog-hai are not too useful because of how slow they are.
Strength: 120Gargoyles are an alright 5th unit. Not only can they move 3 space/round, they can fly over trees and fenses.
Strength: 110Lizards are too expensive to be a good 5th unit
Strength: 100Skeletons are too slow and should be avoided
Strength: 100Bugbears are not great, but can serve as backup in a hard situation
Strength: 100Fachans are one of the best 5th units for hire. The full attack range with 3 moves/round makes them very useful. When used for range attacks, the Fachan takes no damage. A Facham hired early on can last the entire game.
Strength: 150Wyvern are expensive, but can be worth it. They move 3 space/round, can fly and have a strength of 150. They are nice to have when defending, since the enemy can't put of blockades that will stop them.
Strength: 150Gunners are nice for their range, moves/round and strength. Since they are distant attackers, they take no damage when fighting.
Strength: 150Shooters are a little better then Gunners. They have the same range, strength and speed, but cheaper.
Strength: 150Spearmen are a great 5th unit. The price for their strength can't be beat, and their range attack keeps them at this strength. Spearmen hired early on can easily last the whole game.
Strength: 150Pikemen are alright—the drawback being the close range attack.
Strength: 180Lancers are one of the strongest 5th units available—strong then any of the gems. They are quick, strong and useful even against gems.
Strength: 180Warriors are as powerful as Lancers but a little more expensive. Not a bad 5th unit, but take Lancers instead if you can get them.
Strength: 160Pluvius is the strongest gem in the game. His outter attack radius is very useful for taking on castles. Pluvius's weakness is speed—only 2 moves/round.
Strength: 150Zendor is the most useful gem of the game. His attack radius, speed and strength are ideal, even against the Fire Dragon. Bring Zendor when you need to win.
Strength: 110Skulryk isn't the strongest, but his attack radius and speed make him one of the more useful gems.
Strength: 140Empyron is fairly strong, but slow and has a poor attack radius. He makes good cannon fodder for other gems/5th units.
Strength: 130Scylla is probably the least useful gem. She's slow, weak and has only a close attack radius. But she's not bad for defense.
Strength: 120Chylla is quick but only has a close attack radius. Still, the speed can be useful.
Strength: 160Pasthas are granted when the ruler has been good to the people. They are free, only good once and automatically elected 5th unit if attacked. I personally think they would have been more useful at 3 moves/round—but they can't. Pasthas hold their own against the Dragon and because of their strength make good cannon fodder. They are great backup for weak lands since they cost nothing
